BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE
It is almost that time of year again. The onset of winter is approaching and the first snowflake or sign of frost needing to be scrapped off my windshield makes me start circling how many days until summer.
Help create a space for yourself that you want to escape from the frigid cold and hibernate in until the sun starts chasing the snow away. Winter decorating is all about textures, layers and warmth. We’ve compiled a list of ways to ramp up your cozy level.
Think textiles
Sometimes all it takes to change the seasonal mood of your place is different fabric. There is a lot of versatility with a throw blanket when it comes to the cold months. It not only creates a space to curl up and get warm but allows for texture, colour and warmth to be added to your space. I like to stick to thicker/heavier materials like Sherpa or wool.
Swap out those bright fun throw pillows for fur covered and off white warm tones that just scream sit, and bring your tea with you. Heavy drapes are another great way to help keep the cold where it belongs, outside.
Get ready for the clutter
Mittens, Boots, Hats, Well.. usually at least one mitten with its mate amongst the missing.. we see it all collect around the doorway. Keep the stress of winter wear at bay by setting up an organized space. Try to incorporate some trendy coat racks, a midcentury bench that has some hidden storage and shelves that can be lined with baskets.
You can even spruce up that boring boot tray by placing decorative stones in the bottom. The moisture will drip through to the bottom.
Light it up
If you are in search for a cozier home on these darker days now is the time to switch to warmer lighting. Add some more lamps to different levels and swap out your cold bulbs for some amber Edison bulbs.
Bring in a little green
The winter months can have your space feeling drab. It may be cold outside but wintertime is showtime for some houseplants and can leave your space feeling more alive. Rosemary can be found at most large box stores. Placed in the kitchen this can double as both decoration and culinary herb. Christmas cactus and peace lily’s are also great additions to your home that will do great with a little natural light.
Summer time will be here before we know it. Until then, grab a cup of hot cocoa, flick on that lamp and curl up in your throw to wait out the storm.
